(Imagine Exposure Vodcast Guest Interview — Bridgette Hickman B.E. ConnectED Consulting )

  1. Name of Guest — Bridgette Hickman
  2. Career — Technology Specialist
  3. How did your passions when you were a child prepare you for your career as an adult? — Bridgette shared that she enjoyed reading, talking and enjoying friends which gave her confidence. That confidence gave her the courage to approach new things without fear. She has the tendency to push the envelope and it now prepares her for what she is currently doing as a technology specialist. She also shares a great story about cultivating and guiding passion in one of the young people she teaches.
  4. What do they love the most about your jobs? — She loves everything about her job. She loves working in a school setting. Working with teachers, principals and students allows her the opportunity to pour into others. She loves it when she is able to inspire the thought that a student “can do anything” that they set their minds toward.
  5. What is the biggest challenge in your career? — She shared that people think she knows “everything.” However, she clarified that she is always learning. Through a growth mindset she learned how to code and work on technology. While she has degrees (Bachelors — SC State University and Masters — Nova Southeastern University) in other areas, she did not go to college to code or work in technology. Her purposeful passion led her to the reading and practice needed to excel as a self taught coder and technology specialist.
  6. Based on what you know now about your vocation, what advice would you give to yourself if you could go back to the first day of the job? — She shared that a person shouldn’t be afraid to ask for what they want from the start. From the beginning, the person should know their worth. Through building their confidence they should understand that they uniquely add value to the position in which they are beginning.
  7. One motivational quote — Never be afraid to be a poppy in a field of daffodils. — Michaela DePrince
