2. Career — Senior Accountant
3. How did your passions when you were a child prepare you for your career as an adult? — Linnie shared that the connector was a passion towards accomplishing a goal. The passion that she had to be a great student athlete is the same feeling / passion that is now directed towards her vocational pursuits in accounting.
4. What do they love the most about your job? — Linnie voiced that she loves being able to understand a company “without even being in the room”. As a result of reading a company’s numbers or financial statements she “tell the story” of the company.
5. What is the biggest challenge in your career? — Linnie expressed that one of the most difficult parts of working as an accountant is getting experience initially. She went on to explain that even after they get a job there still seems to be a waiting period on when their voice is appreciated by their peers. She quipped that they (young accountants) become more respected as they help to fix others’ mistakes.
6. Based on what you know now about your vocation, what advice would you give to yourself if you could go back to the first day of the job? — Linnie shared that she would share that it was “ok to make the error” initially. She clarified that accountants are always correcting early mistakes prior to the reports becoming public information. She communicated that the new accountant should not live in the fear of making a mistake but they should learn from it. She then translated that advice to her tenure as a girls volleyball coach in which growth mindset is also needed.
